Judy A. Morrill Recreation Center

A community center has been a dream of area citizens for decades. In 1997, a board of directors was established to begin to lay the groundwork to make this dream a reality. In 1999 the center began serving the community, working out of a small storefront in downtown Garrett. The board’s true vision was not realized yet and they began creating a facility which could serve the greater needs. With twelve acres of land donated and an additional $2.2 million raised, a state of the art physical facility was built. This could not have happened without the support of many community members and organizations including Bernard Brennan, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Olive B. Cole Foundation, the DeKalb County Community Foundation, and the Dekko Foundation. The center partnered with the YMCA of DeKalb County for the first years of operations. Thanks to Judy A. Morrill’s monumental donation in 2007, a family friendly aquatics facility was opened in January of 2008. In December of 2010, the board realized it could better serve the community operating independently. In January 2011 the Judy A. Morrill Recreation Center opened its doors as an independent operation. In 2013 the Judy A. Morrill Recreation Center child care program changed its name, vision and philosophy to JAM Early Education. We have successfully progressed from a vision into a fully functioning organization.
